John Mills

John Mills is one of Britain's leading classical guitarists, with a style and a sound uniquely his own. He began playing the guitar at the age of nine, and for the first six years or so was completely self-taught. He then went to the Spanish Guitar Centre in London for an intensive course which lasted almost three years. In 1966 he was accepted as a student at the Royal College of Music in London where he studied under John Williams until the summer of 1969. During his time at the Royal

College, he also made a trip to Spain where he participated in master classes conducted by Andres Segovia at Santiago de Compostella. In July 1969 John Mills emerged from the Royal College and started on a concert career which has taken him not only to all parts of the United Kingdom, but to most of Europe, North America, The Far East, Australia and New Zealand. In 1979 John Mills formed "Motif Records" a company exclusively dedicated to the promotion of the classical guitar both on its solo capacity and in ensemble playing. The company's first release featured the John Mills Guitar Trio. At about the same time he founded a guitar duo with Raymond Burley, and they released a record in 1982. As well as recitals and recordings, John Mills has also frequently appeared on radio and TV. He has appeared three times on Radio 3's "The Classical Guitar" series, and in 1980 he took part in the Harry Secombe  Christmas Special on ITV. John Mills has also taught at many summer schools and master classes in Britain and internationally.
