Simon Dinnigan performing Fugue-Suite BWV 1001
J. S. Bach

Simon Dinnigan

Born June 11, 1968

Simon Dinnigan has been described as one of the best classical guitarists in the world, a world class talent - and a major guitarist for the 21st Century. Simon Dinnigan's outstanding reputation as one of the finest guitarists of his generation is supported by his critically acclaimed solo recording for the esteemed Classic FM label, The Full Works. At the age of just
nine, Simon was hailed a child prodigy by

leading musicians and teachers almost as soon as he picked up a guitar. He gave his first public performance aged 11 and a year later performed his first full solo recital for the Sheffield Music Society. Simon went on to study at the Royal Northern College of Music and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London where he won the Principal's Guitar Prize. While still at the Guildhall, Simon was spotted by Jose Tomas, Spain's most respected Professor of Guitar and was subsequently invited to study with the Maestro in Alicante. Señor Tomas subsequently said: "Simon is the finest pupil I have ever had the good fortune to encounter". Simon has enjoyed a string of competition successes including Sheffield Junior Young Musician of the Year (1981 & 1982), Harrogate Music Festival (1982) and second prize in the Domecq International Guitar Competition (1983) when he was just 14. In 1984 he reached the National String Finals of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition.
